Water is a molecule because it is made from atoms that have been chemically combined. It is also acompound because the atoms that make water are not all the same - some are oxygen and some are hydrogen.

When electricity is passed through water , hydrogen and oxygen gas is produced. Their properties are different from water. Hence water is not a mixture. It is a compound
