water is a liquid because it has less spaces between its particles , and has no low force of attraction and wood is a solid because it has high force of attraction and the particles or say molecules are tightly packed ..

water is liquid because its molecules are not closely packed with each other whereas wood is solid because its molecules are closely packed with each other and if u talk about gas so gas molecules are far away from each other in other words it is not closely packed.
