Why water is not used insted of mercury in thermometer

This is because water doesnt have any gravitational pull on earth or any temprature causing reaction molecules in it but mercury has a sort of chemical which flows only when released in air otherwise it stays hard as solid so if we use water the flow may change the temprature its because of this mercury is being used.
