About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water, which appears blue from space. But also, due to the atmosphere the land appears quite hazy, which at a distance becomes a wash with the predominantly blue surface.

As the earth is covered 3/4 its area of water. So when we see the earth from the space it is seen as blue so it is known as blue planet.
