The device consists of a pair of current coils, and a movable potential coil. The current coils are connected in series with the circuit, while the potential coil is connected in parallel.

The moving coil moves the pointer with the help of spring control instrument. Its connected across the voltage and hence a proportional current flows through this coil. In practical two fixed coils are used instead of one, so that it can be constructed to carry considerable amount of electric current. The instantaneous torque experienced by the pointer is the resultant of the currents in the two coils. Mathematically we deduce that the average deflecting torque for the pointer is proportional to the power and is controlled by the spring constant.

To sum it up..voltage coil is connected in parallel and current coil in series!!
