Why wavelength does not change in scattering?

In Compton effect, the photon is scatteredby a free electron and it loses energy andthereby changes wavelength. ... Obviously, when the light is scattered in Rayleighscattering, the energy content of the light beam surely decreases but the wavelengthof light does not change.
