why we call breaking down of food as respiration

because during digestion carbohydrates we take as food are broken down into glucose. when we breathe in air oxygen binds itself with haemoglobin and is carried to million of cells .here glucose burns I.e.het oxides to produce carbon dioxide and water with liberation of heat or energy

As respiration involves the process of breaking down of food with help of o2.
It is also helpful in making our body by providing it energy.
It produces CO2 and water as its product.
