we cannot see shadow as it is formed when light can't pass through an object.It is generally formed behind an opaque object.

Answer:
the direct light cast the shadow but the shadow is lit dimly by the scattered light and so is not dead black. if the scattered light had colour like the blue of sky, than the shadow will take on colour..
