here's ur answer...

we can smell the food from a distance on cooking but not when it's cold because the food is hot while cooking and we know the kinetic energy of the particles increase when it's heated. so while cooking, the particles of food become hot and it's kinetic energy increases.. so the particles will move faster and they will diffuse with the air around us faster. that's why we can smell the food from a distance while cooking.

on the other hand, when it's cold the particles of food don't move fast as the kinetic energy decreases when it's allowed to cool. that's why we can't smell cold food from a distance.
