Answer:

A pace or a footstep cannot be used as a standard unit of length because the length of footstep, forearm length and hand span of different person is different. Since standard units must be similar at all places of world and in all kinds of conditions. It should not depend upon body parts and natural phenomenon.

Answer:

The length of pace or a footsteps varies from person to person. If the length of foot- steps will be the used as standard unit for measurement of length then two measured quantity will not be same, Hence footsteps or pace is not a constant quantity and cannot be used as a standard unit of length.

And So, Standard units like metres , centimetres and kilometres (for length) grams , milligrams and kilograms (for weight) and many more were introduced which were universally accepted to be used a units.

Hope it helps.

All the best.
