Ordinarily, we cannot breathe while swallowing so you do not suck food or fluid into your respiratory tract because, under normal conditions, your epiglottis automatically covers the entrance to your airway while you swallow.

If you accidentally swallow and breathe at the same time, you’ll aspirate i.e. food and drinks will go down the wrong pipe. Instead of going down the food-pipe, food will enter the windpipe and reach the lungs.
So what happens if food goes to the lungs? Anything from ‘nothing at all’ to ‘death.’
Food in the windpipe will inevitably make you cough violently — and therefore, you wouldn’t particularly be interested in trying it again.
hope this helps, thankyou
