Why we cannot considered metabolism as a defining property of living or Non-living?​

See, metabolism is a defining feature of all living organism without any doubt, in any living structure numbers of metabolic reactions are taking place so called Metabolism. But my friend, these metabolic reactions can also be performed outside a living organism or say outside the fundamental unit of life called CELL.Since these reactions can also be performed in laboratories which shows that these are not living things but for sure these reactions are living.
