Gelatin is a heterogeneous mixture of water-soluble proteins of high average molecular
masses, present in collagen. It is commonly used for coating of culture dishes to improve
attachment of cells. It can be used to grow mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs), mouse
induced pluripotent stem cels (miPSCs) or embyonic fibroblasts

Gelatin was used by john tyndal in his bio chamber experiment to remove all the air in the medium.
it is of better use than agar in coating of plates.
it also adds nutritional value to the microbial culture
