why we do get a spectrum of colours when white light passes through a glass prism???

when white ray passes through it then it will be divided into seven colours .
Namely called as VIBGYOR.
violet,indigo,blue,green, yellow, Orange,red.
This will be causes due to dispersion of light and seems to be follows scratting of light.

the refractive index of many materials varies the wavelength of Color of the light used , a phenomenon known as dispersion.this causes the light of different colours to be reflected nd to leave the prism at different angles...nd similar case in rainbow also....
