A basic clear nail polish could be made from nitrocellulose dissolved in butyl acetate or ethyl acetate.

The nitrocellulose forms a shiny film as the acetate solvent evaporates .

Solvents - Usually the first ingredient in a polish (ethyl acetate, butyl acetate and alcohol are common choices). Solvents are volatile liquids (just means that they evaporate quickly ) and also allow the ingredients required in polish to mix together so you have a uniform product. Solvents are the key ingredient in determining the dry time of your polish as well as the thickness of the product feels cool.

Why we feel cool when apply nail polish on nails?

Because nail polish remover takes latent heat from our palm and hence we feel cool.

  • Evaporation causes cooling as liquid changes to water vapour by absorbing heat from the surface and leaving the surface cool.
