our ear is coinsider as phonoreceptors which help to sense the environment stimuli ( The changes in the environment to which an organism respond ) and send the message to the brain to react on it.

Protection  Your ear drum is a very sensitive membrane that needs to be sheltered from outside objects and dangerous conditions. A ruptured eardrum can cause severe pain and hearing loss. Your outer ear, or pinna, defends the important pieces from harm.  Directing sound  Sound waves exist as variations of pressure in air. They are created by the vibration of an object, which causes the air surrounding it to vibrate. The vibrating air then reaches the ear, causes the eardrum to vibrate, and then the brain interprets it as sound.  If we didn’t have our outer ears, only a portion of the sound waves would be directed into our ear drums. The rest of the waves would pass right by us, causing us to miss the sound. The pinna acts as a funnel to catch more waves and relay them directly to our ear drums, which absorbs the sound.
