Answer:

we hear cracking sound because when lead nitrate is heated it forms (O2) ,(PbO) and (NO2) as residue when a burning stick is taken near the mouth of the test tube in which lead nitrate is heated it produces a cracking sound shows the presence of oxyzen in test tube ,hence the crackling sound is produced by (O2)

We hear a cracking sound while decomposition of lead nitrate due to presence of oxygen.

Explanation:

  • When solid lead nitrate is heated strongly a it turns yellow due to formation of lead oxide and a reddish brown gas is evolved which is nitrogen dioxide.
  • When the evolved gas is passed over wooden glowing splinters it rekindles. This shows the presence of oxygen. Crackling sound will be produced and a Brown Gas(Nitrogen dioxide(NO_2)) evolves which has irritating smell and the gas turns blue Litmus red, hence its Acidic in nature.
  • Hence the Chemical equation for above reaction is-

                    2Pb(NO_3)_2 \rightarrow 2PbO + 4NO_2 +O_2
