The standard meridian of India is 82.5 ° E and it passes through the center of our country and passes through  Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh

India is a vast country and there should be a particular time for all the placed in India in order to avoid confusion of time

in order to avoid this confusion we need standard meredian which can be followed in all the places nd everywhere in the country the time will be same as all the places will follow this time

The longitudinal extent of India is 30 degrees and it takes 4 minutes for the sun to move across 1 degree of longitude during the earth's rotation. Thus the eastern most point of India would be 2 hours ahead of the western most point, in accordance with the local time. This difference in time might create a lot of confusion in travel arrangements and other logistical problems. To avoid this confusion a longitude passing through the mid point of 68 degrees 7 minutes (western most longitude ) and 97 degrees 25 minutes (eastern most longitude ) is taken as the standard prime meridian of India . This happens to be 82 degrees 30 minutes which passes through Mirzapur in UP which is taken as the standard time of India.
