We Need Saliva in our mouth to soften up our food so that it can be chewed properly. Saliva contains HCL Which also acts as an Antisepctic to purify the food and terminate the germs.

Saliva uses to mix the food and make the food slippery and in saliva there is an enzyme named amylase breaks down the food in the mouth..
