Why we pick x not ABCD, in maths

For convenience purposes, we choose x usually. Sometimes equations already have a and b variables in them. Further, a,b,c,d are used as general terms in many formulas. To avoid confusion, we use x.

But if you want, you can also use any other variable, provided it is not already present in the equation.
