Insects do have a nervous system, even when it is much less complicated as compared to that of mammals or birds. Humans have classified insects as inferior subjects in the vast realm of living organisms, maybe because they are the less similar to humans as compared to other creatures on earth. Therefore we do not hold them as equals and we give ourselves the permission to experiment on them regardless of their “feelings” on the subject.
In my opinion insects can and do suffer pain and distress at a level we humans cannot understand or accurately measure yet.
