Why we should not sit a single big tree during a thunderstorm?

This is so because lightning follows the shortest path of least resistance. A tree provides such good path being tall. So, if a tree is struck and one is near it, the ground around the tree can be momentarily charged. So one can be injured or killed by the ground charge passing through even if not in the direct path.
