Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial disease which has the medium fro transmitting through the air and the Tuberculosis bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) are spread through the inhalation through one source to the another host. So, the patients, people, nurses, doctors, etc. should shield their mouths and wear proper equipment to talk to a tuberculosis bacteria infected patient. Otherwise it is highly restricted to stand nearby or close to the person with tuberculosis as, the cough droplets are surely going to carry large amounts of the bacterium. Even people who don't have efficient gas filters or masks cannot or should not stand besides that person (exception is if the patient itself is having a mask which can stop the bacterium from spreading throughout the air).
