Alkalinity is determined by titrating water sample with stander solution of strong acid. The equivalency or end points of the titration are selected as inflections points in the titration of Na2CO3 with H2SO4. The carbonate end point is taken at pH 8.2 and bicarbonate at pH 4.5 the following reaction occur.
