Why we take negative distance in convex whereas negative distance and focal length?

Hey there !

f, the focal length, is positive for a concave mirror, and negative for aconvex mirror. When the imagedistance is positive, the image is on the same side of the mirror as the object, and it is real and inverted. ... Anegative m means that the image is inverted.

the image is virtual so image is formed in front of the mirror then we nagtive distance
