Why we use pycnometer method to find specific gravity of soil solids?

The Pycnometer is used for determination of the specific gravity of soil particles of both fine grained and coarse grained soils. Pycnometer test is used to determine the water content in soil sample. It is used to determine specific gravity of soil. This method is use to find out the density of the soil.
