National Sports Day is firstly celebrated on August 29, 2013. In this occasion, games are held in various schools and colleges. On National Sports Day, Onkar Kedia, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports told that there is a need to build a culture of sports in the country.
National Sports Day is annually celebrated on anniversary of Dhyan Chand.He was a player of hockey. He was born of 29, august 1905. His father name was Sameshwar Singh and mother name was Sharadha Singh. He have a elder brother whose name was Roop Singh. He was also a hockey player. He died on 3 December 1979.
Dhyan chand is also known as “Hockey Wizard”. We celebrate National Sports Day to remember him and because He won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928,1932 and 1936. He done many great things for our country India. We salute him for their contributions to India.
