There are some rules and regulations for writing the symbol of an element.
One of the rule is that while writing formula only the capital letter or the first letter should be written...which is the rule followed in writing C for Carbon.
Another rule is that we should write the formula with The capital letter and the initial letter....that is Co for Cobalt.
There is one more rule...This is for your knowledge....Formulas are also written with the first letter or first and initial letter of the Latin name of their elements...for example....Iron's Latin name is Ferrum and it is therefore written as Fe
