As the calcium atomic no.:-20
:-2 valence electrons

As the oxygen atomic no.:-8
:-6valence electrons

Where calcium and oxygen combine in criss cross method,

They form 8 electrons and becomes stable.
So it exist as CAO..

Hope this helps you...
