Hey friend,
In olden days there was no technology or other ways to bring the water to the surface of the ground to use. Therefore, baolis also known as step-wells were created. The ground was dug till the water and a staircase was made in order to reach that water But since the advent of pipes and motor technology to pull the water ground a small hole in the ground, the use of baoli is no more.
I hope the answer is helpful.
Thanks
