why were children privented fm reading novel?

earlier it was thought that novels may distracte minds of children
therefore they were kept away from reading novels. people also thinks that reading such a novel mein have bad effect on them

(i) Children would get carried away from their real surroundings into an imaginary world.
(ii) It was feared that children would stay away from normal, disciplined life and would become rebels. 
(iii) The novel would have immoral influences on children and they would become corrupt.
(iv) Women and children were seen as easily corruptible, so they were advised to stay away from novels.
