The girls were not sent to school but remained at home. They remained in purdah. Many people feared that if girls were sent to school, they would neglect domestic work. Girls had to travel through public places to reach their school. They felt that girls should stay away from public places. Therefore, during the 19th century, most women were taught at home, some women studied themselves while some were taught by their husbands.
