Why were Japanese treated worse than German Americans during world war 2?

The attrocities committed by the Germans in Eastern Europe were based on ideology, mainly an ethnic cleansing to take over the lands of what the Nazis decided to be Slav subhumans. This also applied to the attrocities committed against other minorities, like the Jews, homosexuals, and, of course, anybody who internally opposed them. They had to be physically destroyed.
