why were socialist against private roperty and saw it as the root of all social ills?

Socialist believed that private property is source of all social ills as they believed that the poor sections were the one who contributed the most to industrial production, and were the one who made property owned by individuals productive but despite their large contribution they got very less wages as they had no control over the property and were forced to work at low rates
