The temple-building spree that started in the late 15th century in Bengal, culminated in the 19th century. Temples and other religious structures, as mentioned in the earlier chapters, were built by powerful individuals and groups for demonstrating their power and to proclaim piety.

Hii dear here is your answer.

Temples were built in Bengal because of the following reasons:-

•Increase in religious faith.

•Mosques had already been  built.

•Powerful people wanted to demonstrate their power and proclaim their piety.

•Low social groups also participated in the temple buildings.

•New economic opportunities to people also helped in setting upto temple.

•Local deities gained          recognition from the Brahmanas, then their images began to be housed in different temples.

Hope it helps
