As Sinhala speakers were in majority ,they tried to establish supremecy in Sri Lanka.. They made sinhala language as their official language disregarding the tamil language
The sri lankan tamils wanted tamil language to be regarded as their official language, regional autonomy and also equal opprtunities for jobs and education.
They made ahuge struggle for their demands .They lanched many struggles and in 1980s several parties were formed demanding an independent Tamil Elam (state ) in north and eastern parts of sri lanka.
