The first elections in 1951-52 were difficult to conduct because of the reasons detailed below.
1) India adopted the Westminster system of elections of the U.K., but found it difficult to adopt it immediately in conducting the first elections over a larger land area, difficult terrains and a bigger population.
2) Polling personnel did not have any experience of the election process.
3) The preparation of electoral rolls was difficult to compile.
