gomsthas (agent of planters) were beaten up and socially boycotted in many places during indigo rebellion at bengal, they did this to warn britishers and to shift their base from bengal.Indigo cultivation ruined the farmers, forced them to get into the cycle of debt, made them poor, the soil also losed all fertility and after all this cultivatiors were not free to grow other crops. There came a time when no other option was left rather than doing this all.
