Why were the indian soldiers discontented during the british rule in the 19th century?

During the 19th century British took almost the control of the whole India.British now started to exploit Indian people.British gave handsome salaries to European soldiers but a little salary to the Indian soldiers,they do not promote Indian soldiers on high post.
