In the early 19th century we did not have mechanical propulsion for ships and hence we were heavily reliant on the winds to sail our ships. Monsoon winds are just trade winds that bring monsoon to the western coast of india.

In present times, we are not reliant on winds as ships have mechanical propulsion methods.
These winds are just used in leisure activities by ships that have sails.
