The new religions were popular among the masses because they bought new beliefs and ideas which people wanted to use to make their lives better . Another cause was spread by rulers and foreigners . When ruler Ashoka became Buddhist his followers and citizens also tried to become Buddhist . The same thing happened when St.Thomas came to India to spread christianity . His followers and pupils adopted the christian religion .
