Why were the people Having varying opinions of the Mariner killing the albatross?

First all the sailors gor angry but then they said that he did good by killing the albatross as it brought all the bad luck and then when their ship was stuck that tym their opinion was changed and they hanged the albatross in the captains neck..... hope it help
