1.In the 17th centuary there was not much change in women status.Women were not allowed to express their ideas or views openly.Hence, during this time women continue to write in veil generally on religious issues.They found a creative and intellectual outlet in private journal and letter-writing. Mary Rowlandson's famous narrative written published in 1682 became a popular success.
2.The 18th centuary was the begining of British cultural revolution.With the expansion in consumerism and  increasing power of the middle class, women's roles began to evolve. 
3.Literacy rate among women started to increase.Various women writers by the 19th century started coming up.Theadvent of some famous women novelist like Mary Ann Evans,Jane Austen,Emily Dickinson etc. by the 19th century popularised novels among women.
4.They got the opportunity to showcase their role and conditons in society.The ideas of a liberal environment and reforms for women were presented in many works which gave new meaning to their womenhood.
The Awakening (1898) by Kate Chopin deals with the female independence.
Maria Edgeworth in her books Castle Rackrent (1800), Ennui (1809), The Absentee (1812), and Ormond (1817) deal with the  sexual equality.
Gail Hamilton published books on women rights, political and relegious subjects.She also made a significant contribution in the history of professional women writes.

5.Women could relate to these stories and start taking intrest in reading and contributing in the field of literature.Many women were also encouraged by their husbands and fathers.
