The temples were often invaded by the kings because because temples were a storage of wealth and jewellery. Whenever there used to be fights between the kings, they used to invade the temples and used to take away immense amounts of wealth.
Example- Somnath temple in Gujarat was invaded by a king of Afghanistan.
