Hi mate,

Tommy and Margie were surprised because, They never saw a real book since they live in the year 2157(In future)

They always read on the screen, in which the letters are always moving, and they don't had to turn the pages.

But for the first time they found that the letters in the actual book stood still instead of moving the way they were supposed to - on the screen.

This made them feel surprised.
