1.British needed good quality wood to bulid their ship and had to maintain their navy.
2.they felt that forest was unproductive and so should be bought under cultivation to make it more productive.
3. British also required wooden sleepers for the railway lines.
4. also, forest were made into plantations.
5.they also wanted to bring more land under cultivation so that it would meet the increasing demand of Europe
