This because when Bangladesh ( also known as east Pakistan ) was a part of India, it was known as east Bengal but after the division it became an independent country and West Bengal remained West Bengal.

The western part went to India ( and was named west bengal while the eastern part joined Pakistan as a province called east bengal ( later renamed east Pakistan, giving rise to Bangladesh)
