the coastal plains between western ghats and the arabian sea are very narrow and so the course of west ward flowing rivers is very short. A delta is spread over a vast area and this is not possible in the case of west flowing rivers into the arabian sea and thus, they form esturies. Examples are Tapi, Narmada,Sharavathi.
