White phosphorus is made up of discrete P4 tetrahedra which are subjected to very high angular strain as the angles is 60 degrees.

Red phosphorus is a polymer of P4 tetrahedra, which has much less angular strain.

This high angular strain makes white phosphorus unstable and highly reactive.

Angle strain is defined as the increase in potential energy of a molecule when their bond angles deviate from ideally expected values, and it is related to stability.

Hope it will help you.....

Because white phosphorous is unstable and  insoluble in  water

shrutikushwaha96: That is not the ans if my ques.
