why why are Sodium and potassium stored under kerosene oil?

because they react vigourusly with water . a lot of heat is generated in the process. so to prevent this they are stored under kerosene oil

Sodium and potassium are one of the highly reactive metal. It gets react when comes in Contact of oxygen or moisture.
So to prevent sodium from reacting it is stored under kerosene oil.
